Heritage student Evelin Marsh is an entrepreneur, designer, and artist who is passionate about supporting fellow female business owners, locally and globally! Continue reading to learn more about Evelin and her journey to achieving her dreams.
Evelin’s Journey to Becoming a Designer & Artist
Evelin Marsh was born and raised in El Salvador and moved to the United States in 2005. Evelin has a background in Psychology and Optometry and is a self-taught artist, general contractor, and fashion designer. As a modern entrepreneur, she is passionate about supporting fellow female business owners both locally and globally with her hashtag #WomenEmpoweringWomenPDX.
Evelin is driven by her motto, “Bloom wherever you are planted”. She believe anyone’s dreams can become a reality with hard work and a big heart.
Evelin’s passion for interior design started while dating her now husband, Chris.
“Thank you to my best friend and husband Chris Marsh who taught me everything about design from demolition to the design process and installation. Together we create beautiful custom designed houses where memories will be created, feelings will be shared, and families will come together and eventually call it their home.”
In 2015, Evelin began to paint as a way to convey her ideas that were inspired by the blueprints of the homes she was working on. Evelin wanted to offer a new way for people to experience art through texture and touch, and now creates large scale, vibrant, mixed media masterpieces. In 2016, she took her artwork to the next level by sublimating her masterpieces onto textiles and creating a line of wearable art.
Currently, Evelin is collaborating with Latin artisans to empower and support them as fellow entrepreneurs. Her ambition for fashion and design has evolved to include shoes, handbags, clutches, wallets, sunglasses, scarves, pillows, upholstery, jewelry, swimsuits, dresses and activewear.
When the pandemic began, Evelin reached out to local fashion designers and worked with them to create fashionable face masks featuring her artwork and prints. The first batch sold out in one week!
The hardest obstacle Evelin had to face in her journey to become an artist and designer was leaving El Salvador where she had to close her optical business and come to the United States as a single mother. Learning a new culture and english as a second language was not an easy challenge. Her son Rudy helped to translate for her while she was taking courses to learn english.
Evelin’s Experience at Heritage
I learned about Heritage School of Interior Design from the Interior Design Society (IDS) of Portland. Heritage allowed me to gain the skills I was looking for through a variety of courses including Textile Design, Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign and Home Staging.
“It was hard to start classes again, but being a student at Heritage has been the best experience I have had in the design industry. Im very thankful for all the Heritage advisors and teachers who have supported me along the way. Heritage helps you organize your thoughts so that you can achieve your dreams and be the best of you. There’s only one decision you need to make: One Day or DAY ONE to make your dreams come true.”
After completing the Photoshop, Illustrator & Indesign course at Heritage, Evelin’s began working on her shoe collection titled: “Wearable Art by Evelin Marsh”. This collection is inspired by all the boss women around the design industry!
Evelin dreams of one day having an Art Gallery where she can showcase her art, fashion design, and the work of fellow artisans. With her ambition we are sure her dream will become a reality soon!
