Leslie Green grew up in Houston, Texas and went to college at Louisiana Tech where she studied Interior Design for a short time until she decided to change her major to Education. She ended up graduating with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and went on to have a very successful career as a teacher.
After 23 years of working in education, Leslie realized that teaching was no longer her passion and she started thinking about what her next chapter in life would look like. Around this time a friend who was remodeling her home asked Leslie to help her pick out finishes.
“Through helping my friend with this project, the bug bit me BIG time and I was renewed and found that fire in me again for Interior Design. It was the first time in a LONG time that I was excited about the possibilities!”
Leslie has always been passionate about interior design, even as a little girl, so the decision to pursue design as her career was easy. She researched design school which led her to HSID and quickly enrolled in the Master Certification Program.
“I have 2 kids in college, so I thought why not go back to school myself! It was ‘Mom’s turn! Mom’s time’, to do something for myself.”
Leslie is a wonderful and dedicated wife and mother to her 3 sons, ages 21, 19 and 15. Her youngest son has severe special needs including Autism. It required help from her family to make sure that he was cared for while she attended HSID.
“It’s vitally important for me to be available for my son all the time, that’s a challenge for sure. This past year going to Heritage was wonderful, but I relied on my other children and my husband quite a bit to be able to watch my son so I could attend ALL my classes and get ALL my homework done. I was not absent, not even once!”
Leslie’s ability to be there for her family while also being a committed student is truly admirable.
Now that Leslie has completed the Master Certification Program, she is working on establishing her own business, Leslie Green Interior Design Consultant, and has already started a few remodeling projects. We are so proud of all of Leslie’s success and we are looking forward to watching her blossom in the design industry!
