Like most designers, Katie had a passion for Interior Design since childhood and has always been an artist. Her mom’s friend was a successful interior designer in LA and she remembers talking to her on the phone for hours about what she was going to do next in her bedroom. Her dad was also a significant influence as a talented builder in the industry.
Katie had design experience and some schooling under her belt before attending Heritage but she didn’t have the confidence or the practice in presenting her design work that she needed to pursue a career in Interior Design. Katie felt fulfilled being in a group that supported her and believed in her talents. At first she was worried that her vegan practices would conflict with interior design, “I won’t decorate with anything that harmed or killed an animal including leather, sheep skin, etc.” she explained. Everyone in class helped Katie realize that this unique quality sets her apart from others.
“Heritage was such an amazing creative outlet for me and all the girls became really close friends that I hope to have for a lifetime.”
Right after graduating Katie was hired as an intern at Z Collection, a luxury tile supplier that sells in showrooms across the Pacific Northwest. Katie is excited to join this group of passionate intellectuals. So far in her intern position she has been creating visuals and concept boards.
Katie’s long term career goal is to own her own Interior Design firm and work with her favorite builder, her dad. She would like to restore old houses, stage them and sell them within her own company. She also wants to own or run a farm animal sanctuary to further support her vegan practices!
