As I sit down to reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the power of taking leaps of faith and pursuing one’s passions. Growing up in Portland, I spent over a decade in the service industry, feeling unfulfilled and unsure of my next career move. But a chance encounter with interior design changed everything. I discovered a new passion for creating beautiful and functional spaces, and I was determined to learn more about the principles of interior design.
Discovering a New Passion
I had always been fascinated by interior design, but I never considered it a viable career path. That was until I toured the Heritage School of Interior Design and discovered the numerous avenues and opportunities available in the field. I enrolled in the Fundamentals of Interior Design Program and never looked back. I was excited to learn about color theory, textiles, and space planning, and to develop my skills in design software.
Overcoming Obstacles
My journey wasn’t without its challenges. While in school, I faced significant life changes that threatened to derail my progress. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I persevered and pushed through. And I’m glad I did – completing my education at Heritage School of Interior Design was a huge accomplishment and a testament to my determination.
The Heritage School of Interior Design Experience
My experience at Heritage School of Interior Design in Portland was instrumental in preparing me for a career in interior design. As a complete beginner, I was able to explore different aspects of interior design and discover my strengths and passions. The Master’s Program allowed me to take specialized classes that showed me I was good at something and passionate about it – a revelation that has fueled my career in interior design. My hard work and dedication paid off when I was awarded student Designer of the Year, a prestigious award that recognized my talent and dedication to the field, and was invited to the Awards Gala in NYC!
A New Chapter
Today, I am proud to be working in the interior design industry with Miranda Kaye Interiors, which brings me so much joy and fulfillment. I have also been taking freelance clients who are other designers in the area to do 3D renderings and AutoCAD. My hope is that I will continue doing documentation and also gain my own clients in the bar and restaurant industry to continue designing commercial spaces, which I love! My journey is a testament to the power of taking risks and pursuing one’s passions. If you’re considering a career change or looking to explore a new field, I encourage you to take the leap – you never know where it may lead you!
