In this exclusive interview, she shares her experiences, inspirations, and the transformative events that have shaped her path. Join us as we delve into her story and discover how she is turning her dreams into reality!
Unveiling the Creative Journey:
Brooke has been immersed in the creative scene for some time, engaging in diverse artistic endeavors. From her expertise in fiber arts, particularly weaving, to her passion for photography and teaching piano lessons, she has always sought avenues to express her creativity. Balancing her roles as a parent and an artist, she realized her calling and was ready for a fulfilling career in Design. She sought out the top Interior Design school in Seattle (Heritage School of Interior Design) to help pave the way for her creative Journey.
The Quest for a Fulfilling Career:
Driven by her love for people and design, Brooke embarked on a soul-searching journey to find a career that would satisfy her desire for creativity and human connection. Determined to explore different possibilities, she weighed the advantages of owning her own business, which offered flexibility, against the idea of working for a design company to delve deeply into specific residential or commercial design areas. Both avenues ignited her excitement and ambition!
Discovering Independence and Purpose:
Throughout her life, Brooke felt the influence of surrounding beliefs and perspectives that prescribed a mother’s role as a “stay-at-home” mom. However, she realized this sole path did not fulfill her. Liberated by her decision to pursue her passion in tandem with motherhood, she found the motivation and confidence to embrace her independence and go after her true professional calling. This newfound freedom propelled her towards self-discovery and self-fulfillment!
The Triumph Over Adversity:
In November 2021, Brooke faced a daunting battle with thyroid cancer. Yet, despite its challenges, she refused to let it define her life. Instead, she drew strength from her diagnosis and used it as a catalyst for personal growth and empowerment! Although she continues to live with cancer, her resilience and determination have grown stronger, propelling her to seize every opportunity and prioritize her dreams.
Heritage School of Interior Design, A Stepping Stone:
Currently enrolled in classes at HSID, Brooke is still in the process of honing her skills and expanding her knowledge in the realm of design. However, her experiences at the institution have provided her with valuable insights that she can apply to her work. While she continues her studies, she envisions herself working as a residential designer, either independently or in collaboration with other design professionals. Additionally, the allure of commercial design, where she can make a direct impact on the public, holds great appeal to her as she completes the design program.
The Power of Boundaries:
When reflecting on her journey, Brooke emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries in all aspects of life. Inspired by her therapist, she highlights the need to establish boundaries within immediate and extended family relationships, friendships, and even work environments. By doing so, she believes that individuals can create balance, preserve their emotional well-being, and cultivate a life that truly serves them.
An Internship with Emily Wignall Design:
Brooke feels fortunate to have the opportunity to intern with the esteemed Seattle-based designer, Emily Wignall. Emily and her team specialize in residential design and are based in Magnolia. Since October, Brooke has been immersed in this enriching experience, learning valuable lessons and implementing her knowledge from Heritage into her work with Emily. Each day spent alongside the talented team fuels her passion for design and provides her with practical skills that will undoubtedly shape her future!
