After graduating with a Theatre degree from CSU, Lane thought she would direct plays for a living. However, she ultimately found herself in the world of real estate and has never looked back. Today, Lane and her wife own a boutique real estate company, Dwell Denver Real Estate where Lane just celebrated her 18th year as a realtor and plans to maintain her real estate license.
For the last few years, Lane has been in discovery mode for what might come next in her career.
“I will always be involved in our real estate business but it doesn’t occupy all of my time so I began exploring other things. In the process, I found myself in the middle of a horrific basement remodel. Had it not been for such a terrible experience, I might not have found this path, but I’m so glad I did.”
When Lane had to take control of her project to complete it, she learned there is so much she would have done differently had she known better AND these are things she’d love to be able to share with clients! “My new purpose is to take my previously unidentified design talents and help our real estate clients either stay in their homes or buy homes that might be less expensive but can be renovated. Having the skills to help our clients make smart housing and design decisions will be the perfect complement to what we already do!”
Until enrolling in Interior Design school, Lane never thought of herself as a designer but through this process, she realized she is ALWAYS designing! Most of her personal design inspiration comes from her family’s life experiences… travels, concerts, and memories.
“When designing for others, I’m finding my inspiration is starting to come from figuring out how to make their spaces reflect their life or the life they want to live.”
Lane is currently finishing Master Certificate classes at Heritage School of Interior Design located in Denver, Colorado.
“I was drawn to Heritage immediately after looking into the process of becoming an interior designer. Like most folks changing careers, I’m not in a stage in my life where I can spend several years in school. I needed something comprehensive, yet efficient, which is exactly what I have found with Heritage. I love that it’s in person, it’s so intense that I HAVE to be all in, and that I’ll be done in just a few more months.
I’ve never learned this much, this fast, in my life and I really appreciate it! The creative and artistic portion of this learning has been the hardest and most vulnerable for me…the stretch, if you will. Because of my background and nature, I’m extremely efficient, detail-oriented, and can get things done on a business level. Yet, allowing myself to “be an artist,” be a beginner, and be not very good at something was harder than I thought.
The gratitude is that my classmates, my instructors, and the support of the Heritage team have allowed me a safe space to learn something new. I’ve been pushed, challenged, cheered on, overwhelmed, under-slept but most of all incredibly proud of what Heritage has asked of me and what I’ve been able to deliver in such a short time.”
