Over the past year, we’ve seen some changes within both our local Interior Design communities and the greater industry network which means it’s time to expand our programs with new skills and courses!
We’re thrilled to announce some BIG updates to our curriculum starting Fall 2024 for our Portland, Seattle, and Virtual schools! Two new electives and a restructure of our Master Certification Programs will enhance your learning experience and better prepare you for success in the dynamic field of Interior Design.
New Elective: Chief Architect!
We’re introducing Chief Architect, a brand new elective course and a powerful software tool for Interior Design professionals. This program has recently launched a free student version, making it more accessible than ever!
Chief Architect offers advanced capabilities for designing, drafting, and visualizing interior spaces, providing you with valuable skills that are in high demand in the industry. By mastering Chief Architect, you’ll be equipped to create stunning designs and stand out as a competitive candidate in the job market.
Chief Architect will be available starting Fall 2024 for Portland, Seattle, and Virtual students.
Master Certification Program Enhancements
Our Master’s program has been revamped to incorporate additional essential skills and software that employers are seeking in Interior Design professionals.
The updated curriculum includes:
- Fundamentals of Interior Design
- Intro & Advanced AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- Advanced 3D Modeling: Choose either Revit or Chief Architect (New!)
- Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign
- Kitchen & Bath Design
- Construction Basics (New!)
- Business & Entrepreneurship
- Commercial Design
- Master’s Portfolio Capstone
These additions ensure that students receive a comprehensive education that covers both foundational principles and advanced techniques in interior design. Introducing: Advanced Master Certification Program
We’re introducing a new certificate program tailored for students who are focused on developing exceptional portfolios. By the end of the program, students emerge with a deep proficiency in 3D rendering techniques as well as refined hand rendering abilities. These in-demand skills make graduates highly attractive to potential employers in the interior design field.
This comprehensive program includes all of the courses offered at Heritage School of Interior Design and students receive a Professional Certificate in Interior Design upon completion.

New Elective: Construction Basics
Get ready to dive into the fundamentals of construction in our new 6-week intensive course! Students will gain essential insights into the construction process. During the class, you will learn about the sequential phases of a construction project, the diverse systems involved in construction, and master effective contractor collaboration.
By course end, you’ll confidently pinpoint key project milestones, interpret construction schedules and estimates, and grasp the full lifecycle of project management, from inception to fruition.
The new Construction Basics course will be available starting in Winter 2025 for students enrolled in our Portland, Seattle, and Virtual programs.
Information for Existing Students
The new Master Certification Program requirements take effect for students who enroll in Fall 2024, and the new elective classes will be available (not required) for all students currently enrolled in our Portland, Seattle, and Virtual locations!
