Crystal Samuel joined the Heritage Denver community in Spring 2021. Before attending Heritage, she graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. There was no doubt she possessed every skill necessary to be a successful engineer, however, she knew that she lacked the passion for that industry. After graduating, she took a job working with a Contractor in the Denver area. The company allowed her to gain experience in management, field, and pre-construction. Although she enjoyed what she was doing and loved how much she was learning, she knew that her passion laid elsewhere.
It was clear from a young age that Crystal had a deep love for the world of Interior Design. When she was a child, her parents included her in the search for their new family home. It was during this home search that she discovered how much she enjoyed viewing model homes and exploring beautiful spaces. When she insisted her parents buy her the “build your own dollhouse” from Hobby Lobby, it became evident to her entire family that her love for homes was what fueled her happiness and creativity. As her use of social media platforms grew, so did her dream of becoming an Interior Designer. Her Pinterest Home Board by far had the most pins, and her Instagram feed was full of awe-inspiring interior spaces.
The extra time at home during the Covid-19 pandemic made it clear to Crystal that it was time to pursue her true passion for Interior Design. Having the spare time at home to work on projects and explore design elements set a fire within her that she could no longer ignore. She knew that she would be living a life of happiness by pursuing this new career path, and she would finally be given a chance to unleash her creative character!
On the first day, Crystal immediately felt at home at Heritage. Being in a room filled with other professionals, all following their passions, gave her a sense of belonging she has never felt in a school setting. She was excited to learn from her classmates from different backgrounds while all learning about Interior Design together. Although the program is fast-paced and rigorous, Crystal forgets she is back in school because she finds the content intriguing and inspiring.
After graduating from Heritage, Crystal would love to pursue a career in residential design. While designing her own home, she gained an appreciation and understanding of the importance of making a house a home. Crystal is looking forward to having the opportunity to create that for other people. Her ultimate dream would be to work for a model home or custom home builder and bring her back to her first introduction to interior design, making this design journey full circle.
