The Black Bath Trend

Black baths are a dramatic and bold addition to a home or commercial space. While the trend may have started in sleek restaurant bathrooms, we love it in a residential space for a moody and romantic feel. Adding patterns and soft finishes can make the traditionally masculine color more versatile.  

Where to Apply Black

The extent of black in the bathroom can vary depending on the style you are going for. For the most dramatic application, try black everywhere: floor to ceiling and everything in between.

For a more subtle look, introduce black just on the floor or walls. Black accessories and hardware is another fun way to bring a sleek look to your guest bath.

For painted walls, try a matte black with warm undertones to keep the space intimate and cozy. For some added texture, try wallpaper! We recommend a primarily black graphic print wallpaper with some dimension to add interest to the space.

One way to vary the black within the space is by applying it in different textures and materials. For example, try a matte finish tile on the floor and a glossy finish on the backsplash.

What Other Materials To Introduce

Accessorize the space with more natural materials such as a wooden or marble vanity with woven baskets and textural towels to soften what otherwise might be a harsh or stark environment. 

What To Put on the Floor

For a more dramatic look, pair black walls with a patterned black and white tile on the floor. Large-scale black hexagon tiles offset with a gray or even white grout will add a pop to any bathroom. For an update on the classic bath, try painted black walls, white wainscoting and a simple white tile floor.    

Fixtures & Accessories

Gold finishes and hardware and warm wood in shelving or a vanity will bring warmth and offset the cool black surfaces. In addition to hardware, we suggest adding plants and natural woven accessories to bring life to the space. 

Final Do’s & Don’ts

Do vary texture, finish (matte vs glossy) and pattern in your black selections. Don’t cover the entire space up in the same color and material.

Do consider lighting, avoid light fixtures that create stark shadows and opt for even warm lighting throughout. 

Avoid all black for your primary bathroom (all black surfaces may impact lighting and skin tone). 

However, no holds barred for a stunning guest or powder bath with black finishes everywhere!
